Pensotti of Gravesend 1860
A mahogany wheel Barometer with an 8" silvered barometer dial, encased in a cast bezel with convex glass, the makers name C.Pensotti of Gravesend is below the mirror with the Level aperture - there is recorded in the Barometer Makers book by Edwin Banfield a J.Pensotti of Gravesend circa 1855, could this be the same person or a relative? This Barometer would date to around 1860 and is extremely rare. We have not seen one quite like this with the Mirror and raised dial before and when reseaching this style of Barometer, Edwin Banfield the author of many Books on Barometers and their Makers suggests that they are very rare indeed and thought only to be made by one maker.
